Burrowing Owl
Yesterday was foggy and dreary but we decided we would enjoy a trip to Anahuac Wildlife Refuge. By the time we got there, the skies were blue with white puffy clouds, a light wind which meant no mosquitoes and a pleasant temperature requiring only a light jacket for me.
There were several highlights of the trip. We missed the anhis ( not sure of this spelling or even what they look like). They are relatives of the cuckoo, a rather nondescript brown bird if the bird book is to be believed.
then there was the burrowing owl. He is very small and I have included a photo of the concrete slab he lives under—near the cattle feeder. You can just barely see him in the photo.
and here is where his little house is. Look at the very nearest end of the concrete slab.
