my world in black and white
This week’s photo challenge was to use black and white. I’ve shot dozens of rolls of black and white film so this seemed an easy project when I first read the assignment. However, gray dull skies and intermittent rain made this difficult. I took the photos in color and then converted them in Photoshop. I did some manipulation with unsharp mask and contrast/brightness–and was tempted to use infrared on the camellia—maybe next time.

camellia blooming in my front yard. Usually it blooms in November but this year it is quite late, probably due to cold weather and drought.

here it is cropped and converted to black and white with some contrast adjustments

taken at our winter Holus Bolus Retreat. the cup is a demitasse and holds about two tablespoons. the cone to the left is the tea bag and the brown rounds to the left are spice cake in a jar

Here is the black and white version I submitted. I did not do a lot to the photo–no cropping–just some unsharp mask.
I’m not sure which version I like better. The vibrant colors of the pottery add to the imagery–I think. But I did get an image submitted before the deadline.
