Painted Churches and bluebonnets

Taking a drive to see and photograph the bluebonnets–and taking your photograph sitting in the middle of a large field of them is a Texas custom. It was many years before we actually started to take these photos and the last two years have been drought-laden with a poor showing. this year, the fields are green and bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush are plentiful.

We also took a tour of the painted churches located around Schulenberg. Our guide was a former real estate agent from Houston but she had studied the area and the church imagery and was most informative and fun. The churches are of German and Czech origin with most being updated and refurbished in the past years. I wrote a lot of notes about each one and hope to do some artwork referencing them. I have an entire gallery devoted to the painted churches here:

I highly recommend the tour, the Olle Hotel in Flatonia and a lovely weekend spent amongst the bluebonnets.
