Labels or What’s in a name

Historians love to find names on things and trace them backwards into time and put the object into some sort of time frame. Sometimes quilts can be dated by the fabrics used and sometimes the information is on the quilt. Traditionally–in modern times, the label is found on the back.

My labels are not particularly fancy but I try to use leftover bits of the quilt top, print out the label and then trace it on freezer paper backed light colored fabric.

I keep a notebook of all the labels and make a note of the font and size I used. That has proven more interesting to look back through than some of the photos as I don’t always have photos of everything I’ve made.
