Friday my husband and I went to a work related party. The hostess served Spritz cookies–shaped like little green Christmas trees.
It had been a long time since I had made Spritz. The first time I ever had Spritz was in the home of my in-laws where my two sisters-in-law decided to make Spritz one afternoon. Unbeknownst to each other, they added food coloring to the dough, resulting in lovely purple cookies.
I’ve made dozens of cookies ranging from bar cookies to roll-out sugar cookies to oatmeal raisin and even Spritz. But this afternoon feeling too weary from work on previous day, I decided a batch of Spritz was just what I needed to raise my spirits.
First we had to find the cookie press. We opened drawers, peeped through shelves and finally found it tucked on a lower shelf next to the apple peeler.
I found a small bottle of nonpareils and a nearly empty bottle of food coloring.
Husband insisted the cookie sheet be greased despite the instructions on the box.
The cookies splatted out even though I wiped off the oil and tried again. A clean cookie sheet yielded pretty enough cookies to take to a party tomorrow night. And those funny looking ones will go great with tea this afternoon.
